Orange delays law requiring gas stations to post prices

Posted on January 20th, 2012

Orange County leaders delayed a decision Tuesday on whether to require gasoline stations to display pump prices prominently.

Orange County leaders delayed a decision Tuesday on whether to require gasoline stations to display pump prices prominently.

The postponement until Feb. 7 came after a debate over which price the stations should post its highest or lowest charge.

The ordinance follows the lead of Orlando leaders, who approved a law requiring highly visible signs at stations near Orlando International Airport, where customers often rush to top off the tank of a rental car.

The Orange law would give businesses 90 days to put up signs. Stations that do not comply would face a fine of up to $1,000 a day.

Crude oil prices hold near $88

Posted on November 10th, 2010

NEW YORK, Nov. 11 (UPI) — Crude oil prices held steady Thursday after climbing close to $88 per barrel in the previous session on strong manufacturing and trade data from China.

Manufacturing activity surged in China in October with the Purchasing Managers Index climbing from 52.9 to 54.8. China said Wednesday its trade surplus soared in October to $27.1 billion from $16.9 billion in September.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration said Wednesday U.S. crude oil inventories fell by 3.3 million barrels to 364.9 million in the week ending Nov.

Prices were up 5 percent from a year ago and roughly flat with March at $163,600.

In the Charlotte County-North Port market, sales rose 6 percent and the median sales price of $114,500 was up 20 percent from a year ago and 3.5 percent from March.

Across Florida, 16,781 homes changed hands during April, up 27 percent from a year ago. The median sales price of $140,100 was up 1 percent from a year ago and 2.3 percent from March, Florida Realtors, the former Florida Association of Realtors reported on Monday.

The Sunshine State’s experience came against the backdrop of national home sales that surpassed expectations for April.

The National Association of Realtors said that sales of previously owned homes rose 7.6 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.77 million. That was the best showing in five months and better than the 5.63 million units economists had expected.
