New Camera Does Away With Focusing
Posted on June 20th, 2011
The camera market has become a confusing place with the broad shift to digital and growing competition from phones. CNET reports that Lytro, a start-up hoping to break into the field, recently announced a new camera that looks to change one of the fundamental aspects photography: focusing.
Lytro, founded several years ago by Stanford doctoral graduate Ren Ng, introduces a workable model of a long-awaited technology known as light-field photography. This approach differs from traditional photography by gathering light from multiple directions with no need to focus the shot. Using computer algorithms to process the light, these pictures can then be focused after the fact to emphasize any aspect of the picture.
CNET suggests that the company faces a tough challenge beating the dominant players in the market. Read full article…

CME Group to sell Board of Trade Building
Posted on June 14th, 2011
CHICAGO, June 14 (UPI) — CME Group Inc. said it would accept offers for the historic Chicago Board of Trade Building, a landmark built in 1930 and worth potentially $250 million.
The high-rise with the Chicago address of 141 West Jackson Street, is a 1.4 million-square-feet building owned by the company that operates the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Chicago Board of Trade.
The art deco building includes, on its roof, a three-story sculpture of Ceres, the Roman goddess of grain, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Tuesday.
CME said putting the building up for sale was not connected with the firm’s recent complaints over a new state tax for corporations.
CME Chairman Terrence Duffy threatened to move some jobs out of the state, although the trading floors would stay put, he said. But CME said selling the building included a lease-back option.

Use Only Reliable Document Generation Software
Posted on June 12th, 2011
In the field of document generation on offices like your office, it is highly recommended that you should use only the one that is reliable and can meet the output services your office needs.
Im jazzed about – of all things – reporting software. (And yeah, friends say I need to get out of the basement more.) Because at my last company, we used the market leader in reporting and business intelligence. It sucked. It was tedious and really hard (individually formatted fields?! cmon) and I kept getting interrupted by coworkers with question after question after question.
Big thanks to Santosh, my new boss who gave me the power to try out and ultimately choose reporting and document generation software for our company. There are a few things Im looking for. It has to be able to work with XML reports AND SQL reports. Our data is everywhere, but mainly SQL databases and XML files. Wer

Wall-street is seeing a comeback in terms of lending to small businesses. The reason for this is 12 investment firms are arranging $1.38 billion of initial stock offerings, in-order, to pump in cash to nation’s biggest job creators.
Business development corporations (BDCs) are formed by leading corporations that typically lend to small businesses having annual revenue less than $500 million. This is in accordance to filings with US Securities & Exchange commission. The ongoing BDCs wave is the greatest in at-least seven years now.
Trillions of dollars are being flooded into the financial system by the Federal Reserve in the span of last three years. But, obtaining credit still remains a challenge for borrowers who do not have a direct access to capital markets. Unemployment is hovering above 9 percent, so in any event if credit continues to filter down, then the recovery of labor market would be slow. <

JAPAN: UNEMPLOYMENT INCREASES
Posted on June 1st, 2011
After the earthquake and tsunami, Japan has a rise in unemployment for the first time in six months. A record drop in was also felt in industrial production.
The twin disasters have already sent Japan’s economy back into recession and Moody’s Investors Service warned Tuesday it could downgrade Japan’s sovereign credit rating due to the faltering economy and massive public debt.
The jobless rate edged up to 4.7 percent from 4.6 percent in March due to job losses in the retail and wholesale sectors, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said. Read full article…
