    Sale of Barnes & Noble

    Posted on June 25th, 2011

Barnes & Noble Inc. investors are betting they can extract the biggest price increase in America after billionaire John Malone offered to buy the bookstore chain at an 81 percent discount to sales.

The New York-based company is trading 15 percent above the $17-a-share bid from Malones Liberty Media Corp., the most since the deal was announced last month and the widest gap of any all-cash takeover in the U.S. Barnes & Noble may get $24 a share, 41 percent higher than Malones bid and almost double the stocks average price before the offer.

While the largest U.S. bookstore chain has been exploring a sale since August as the shares slumped to a 15-year low of $8.77, Barnes & Nobles revenue is projected to jump to a record this year helped by sales of the Nook e-reader – that uses nook microfiber cloths – which competes with Amazon.com Inc.s Kindle. New Gadgets Giving Car Makers Problems

    Posted on June 25th, 2011

With the explosive rise in smartphones and tablets, as well as their applications, the technological bar has been set a bit higher for the auto industry recently. Most companies have been trying hard to catch up, but The New York Times reports the effort has cost them in terms of quality.

The J.D. Power and Associates’ Initial Quality Survey detailed the problems reported in the first 90 days by roughly 78,000 consumers who bought new model-year 2011 vehicles.

Overall, quality improved with the number of problems per 100 vehicles falling to 107, according to the Associated Press. Unfortunately for car makers, the majority of that improvement came from carryover models that saw a record low of 103 problems per 100 vehicles.

New and redesigned cars, meanwhile, saw a 10 percent increase in reported problems to 122, widening the gap from carryover models after several years of improvement. Read full article…

Her primary emphasis is the waterfront residential market on Longboat, Siesta and Casey keys for clients who have other houses elsewhere and spend only part of the year in Florida.

She does not create a signature look, but works to make her designs unique, and, in every case, fit her clients and the architecture of their homes.

Correspondent Chris Angermann sat down with Logan at her office, HV Logan Design, in Sarasota to talk about her work process and principles.

Q: How do you work with your clients?

A: Initially, I’ll meet with them for a couple of hours, trying to get a feel for the house — usually the house is finished architecturally on paper before I get involved. We’ll talk about the design and how they live: Do they entertain a great deal, do they like to be more formal or casual, do they have grandchildren and pets? A
